Bad Hare Pottery is the brain child of Lori Eagle Claw Straatmann.
She received her baccalaureate degree in Art at the University of Northern Iowa
and have been working in clay for over 20 years.
Bad Hare was created as an outlet for her fascination with medieval functional
pottery. Using archaeological texts and extant museum examples, she endeavors
to recreate pots that existed during the Middle Ages.
Finding solutions to creating safe pottery that has the same look and feel of
period pottery is challenging, but she finds this to be as interesting as the forms
themselves. Bad Hare pots contain no lead, are food safe, dishwasher safe
and are usable in ovens and on campfires if used properly.
One of Lori's greatest joys is seeing one of her creations in use. She loves receiving
pictures and testimonials from those who own and use the pots she has made.
Custom work brings another joy, the joy of new discovery. Lori encourages you to
discuss custom order ideas with her. Who knows? Perhaps your discovery
will be the next hottest thing on the reenactors' list of "must-have"s.
Lori also greatly enjoys clay oddities. She loves discovering documented clay vessels
that serve unusual purposes or have a unique shape. Examples of some of
her favorite finds are the 16th C. crayfish trap and a medieval chicken feeder.
